Candidates who plan to take the May Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC)™ exam must submit their application during the month of March. The CASC credential is a distinction earned by members of the ASC community who demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge and skills required of an ASC administrator.

On February 24, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published a proposed rule that would revise aspects of the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) bundled payment model. This model was first implemented in April 2016 as an inpatient, episode-based payment model for hip and knee replacements. The model mandated participation for all fee-for-service hospitals paid under the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) in certain metropolitan areas.

The Food and Drug Administration said the pharmaceutical industry reported the first shortage of a drug due to the COVID-19 outbreak that has spread to 44 countries in a matter of weeks. The FDA, which declined to identify the drug, said the shortage is related to a manufacturing site impacted by the outbreak in China.

For years, 50 years old has been the age at which screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) began in the United States, but recently one group lowered the starting age to 45. This move by the American Cancer Society in 2018 was made in reaction to reports of an increase in the incidence of CRC in younger adults.
