[The American College of Radiology (ACR)] has formally asked CMS to update the National Coverage Determination (NCD) 210.3 – Colorectal Cancer Screening Tests to reflect the fact that Medicare now covers screening computed tomographic colonography (CTC). Following a multi-year ACR public, provider and decisionmaker education and advocacy campaign regarding CTC efficacy, cost efficiency, and patient compliance gains, CMS announced in the 2025 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) final rules that it will cover beneficiaries for CTC.

Studies show physician practices have increasingly been acquired by hospital systems, insurance companies, private equity firms, and other entities. At least 47% of physicians were consolidated with hospital systems in 2024—up from less than 30% in 2012.

With an aging and ailing population still reeling from health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, salaries are up in many physician specialties, data from a top physician recruiting firm shows. “There's a very common theme here,” said Alex Herbison, vice president at AMN Healthcare’s Physician Solutions division, commenting on the data.
