In 2018, the Board of Ambulatory Surgery Certification (BASC) introduced the new Certified Ambulatory Infection Preventionist (CAIP)™ credential.

The CAIP credential is primarily intended for licensed health care professionals interested in demonstrating their understanding of the skills and knowledge required to fill the role of an ASC infection preventionist. CAIP is the first credential designed specifically for infection preventionists in the ASC industry.

BASC also administers the Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC)™ credential.

The first CAIP exam period is scheduled for October 1–31, 2018. The electronic exam application, which will be posted to the CAIP website later this year, must be submitted in August.

ASC professionals interested in learning more about CAIP, including exam content areas, annual recertification requirements and contact hour requirements, should visit the CAIP website and download the CAIP Handbook.
