Citing concerns about unnecessary disease progression and death tied to a United Healthcare prior authorization policy set to take effect June 1, 2023, ASCA sent a letter to UnitedHealth Group Chief Executive Officer Sir Andrew Witty on April 17. In that letter, ASCA urges United Healthcare to rescind the policy and concludes, “This policy has not been well designed, lacks clinical justification, will result in delays for medically necessary care for patients and adds unnecessary paperwork burden to physicians and their staff.
