Medicare’s Final Payment Rule: Solid Progress for ASCs in 2024,” the newest episode of ASCA’s Advancing Surgical Care Podcast, summarizes the ASC payment and quality reporting changes included in Medicare’s 2024 final payment rule. The OAS CAHPS Survey is designed to measure patient experience with overall care received in ASCs. It is voluntary through the end of 2024 and will become mandatory for all eligible Medicare-certified ASCs beginning in 2025.

To ensure your facility is ready when the survey becomes mandatory, ASCA strongly encourages all ASCs to get started with the survey as soon as possible. ASCA members receive a discount on Press Ganey’s OAS CAHPS Survey.

Today, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (Task Force) released its 13th Annual Report to Congress on evidence gaps related to promoting mental health and wellness for people of all ages and in specific high-risk populations. The topics featured in this report include screening for anxiety disorders, depression, and suicide risk in children, adolescents, and adults.

The strongest determinant of surgical approach to a benign outpatient hysterectomy in the United States was not patient or hospital-level variability, but unexplained differences across individual surgeons. This has implications in how surgeons are trained and incentivized to deliver high value surgical care.

A UCF-HCA Healthcare resident received international honors for his research showing that southern U.S. states — which also have the nation’s highest obesity rates — also have the highest incidence of colon cancer. Raghav Bassi, chief internal medicine resident at the UCF-HCA residency at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, found the correlation using HCA’s expansive, nationwide research data base of its patients.

Covidien LLC is recalling McGrath MAC Video Laryngoscope in order to remove stolen defective models that have been offered for sale illegally by unauthorized third parties. These laryngoscopes, meant for destruction, were being sold on social media platforms.
