The ASCA Nominating Committee is currently accepting nominations for the ASCA Board of Directors. There are four open positions. Candidates must hold leadership positions within an ASC or ASC management company. Those selected by the board to serve are expected to attend at least three board meetings per year and participate in the Washington, DC, fly-in. To ensure the board is geographically diverse, preference will be given to candidates from the West, Midwest or East Coast.

Why is ASC Scheduling Stuck in the 90s?

In Montana, a phlebotomist said fellow health care workers often made "ignorant comments" about the hospital's Native American patients.

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has launched a new data registry focused on cardiac procedures performed in ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs). The CV ASC Registry Suite, like other ACC registries, was designed to help cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and other cardiology professionals compare patient care at their own facilities with care performed at similar facilities throughout the United States.

In 2023, there were 58 ASCs licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Of these, 54 are also certified as ASCs by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which enables them to receive Medicare payment.

The ambulatory surgery center (ASC) sector continued to evolve in 2023, reflecting a trend of steady growth, higher-acuity cases, and some changing regulations. 2023 featured continued consolidation through a combination of investment by prominent ASC platforms and acquisitions made by new entrants in the market.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has released the final revision of its special publication titled “Implementing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Security Rule: A Cybersecurity Resource Guide." The document, also referred to as SP 800-66r2, offers guidance for regulated entities like HIPAA-covered organizations and their associates on how they can improve their cybersecurity posture and comply with the HIPAA Security Rule, the NIST said Wednesday.

A robotic device burned and tore a woman’s small intestine while she was undergoing surgery for colon cancer, according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed this week in Florida. The woman, Sandra Sultzer, developed abdominal pain and fever after her surgery in September 2021 and needed additional procedures to close the tear, the lawsuit said. The suit said she died in February 2022 because of the small intestine injury.
