According to new projections published today by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges), the United States will face a physician shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036. "Given the new findings, it is clear that both sustained and increased investments in training new physicians are critical to mitigating projected shortfalls of doctors needed to meet the health care needs of our country," said AAMC President and CEO David J. Skorton, MD.

Why is ASC Scheduling Stuck in the 90s?

Technology has evolved significantly creating convenience, efficiency and better user experiences. However, ASC scheduling has been left behind.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, today announced 41 drugs available through Medicare Part B will have a lowered Part B coinsurance rate from April 1 – June 30, 2024, if the drug company raises prices faster than the rate of inflation. An estimated 763,700 people with Medicare use one or more of these drugs annually.

The American College of Emergency Physicians, American College of Radiology, and American Society of Anesthesiologists submitted their fifth amicus brief in support of the Texas Medical Association’s suit challenging the federal government’s improper implementation of the No Surprises Act. The societies contend that significant portions of federal agencies’ July 2021 interim final rule implementing the No Surprises Act are flawed.

Nearly 15 percent of medical claims submitted to private payers for reimbursement are initially denied, according to a new national survey of hospitals, health systems and post-acute care providers conducted by Premier, Inc. An average of 3.2 percent of all claims denied included those that were pre-approved via the prior authorization process.

The fallout is growing again against embattled Steward Healthcare as the company tries to sell off some of its assets in Massachusetts to catch up on back bills. Steward disclosed to the state it wants to sell its network of physicians to United Health Group, a move that could help Steward pay some of its bills, including a reported $50 million in unpaid rent.

Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn), a bacterium present in the human oral cavity and rarely found in the lower gastrointestinal tract of healthy individuals, is enriched in human colorectal cancer tumours. High intratumoural Fn loads are associated with recurrence, metastases and poorer patient prognosis.
