Wisconsin recently enacted legislation that allows more autonomy for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), including Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. On August 8, Wisconsin Assembly Bill 257, the APRN Modernization Act, was signed into law by Governor Tony Evers.

This study found that in addition to lower utilization of common elective surgical procedures, the costs of surgical episodes were lower for patients enrolled in [Medicare Advantage (MA)] than those enrolled in [traditional Medicare]. MA plans had lower costs because more procedures were performed in outpatient settings, required shorter lengths of stay, and less expensive postacute care, with no apparent harm to overall quality.

Illinois will ban arbitrary limits on anesthesia coverage thanks to a bill Gov. JB Pritzker signed into law Friday. Local lawmakers filed the plan after they saw insurance companies try to enforce time limits on anesthesia coverage.
